How do I become a supplier to Leonardo DRS?
There is no guaranteed way to become a supplier to Leonardo DRS. The best place to start: Review the DRS website and get to know our business units. Each determines its own requirements for procurement and selects its own sources of supply. However, in some cases, corporate agreements may be developed to cover the requirements of two or more divisions.
What does Leonardo DRS look for in a supplier?
Leonardo DRS looks for suppliers with expertise in specific areas rather than generalists, as well as proven experience, a history of delivering on their contracts, and a strong financial position.
How does Leonardo DRS select and manage suppliers?
We do our due diligence. Our rigorous process includes desktop research, supplier questionnaires and site visits assessing and ensuring that supplier standards are consistent with our expectations.
What is the significance of being a franchised or authorized distributor?
DRS seeks to guarantee that all purchased components are exactly as specified. Therefore, we choose to use Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and franchised or authorized distributors whenever possible.
How can I identify opportunities within Leonardo DRS?
Most opportunities will be by invitation to participate in a competitive bid. However, DRS relies heavily on business unit agreements and corporate agreements to meet ongoing needs. Therefore, opportunities do not exist in all areas at all times. Windows of opportunity might be on an annual basis or as far out as five years. Most suppliers find it easiest to focus activities on the business units that best fit their expertise.
How can I be selected for inclusion in a competition leading to a corporate agreement?
DRS uses corporate agreements when commodity goods or services are required at multiple locations. To be selected for participation in a competition for these agreements, you must be nominated by a business unit. Therefore, it is imperative to be an outstanding supplier to the business units you are currently supporting.
What is the best way for a current Leonardo DRS supplier to market services to other business units?
Suppliers that have experience with DRS are encouraged to market their services to other business units. We encourage you to ask your cognizant supply chain leader to nominate you for corporate agreements and advocate your services to other business units.
A new government contract was just awarded to Leonardo DRS. How can I learn about opportunities associated with that contract?
DRS anticipates subcontracting requirements as part of the contract bid process. Therefore, new contract awards will pass work onto companies that supported the bid process.
Are there special opportunities for US small business suppliers?
DRS strongly supports all types of suppliers, including, but not limited to, those in categories of Small, Small Disadvantaged, Women Owned, HUBZone, Veteran Owned, and Service Disabled Veteran Owned businesses. Within each DRS business unit, there is a small business liaison officer that performs supplier outreach in the appropriate categories and products. Like all suppliers, you should focus your marketing to the business units that are best suited for your products and services.
Does DRS participate in any small business mentorship programs?
Yes. Our Formal mentoring is tied to a government Mentor Protégé contract. Suppliers interested in this program should have a strong history supporting government contracts with DRS. Contact your supply chain leader on current programs to inquire about future opportunities. We also mentor informally, providing ongoing feedback to our service suppliers. Inquire with DRS employees about opportunities for improvement or growth.
